Our Story

Te Ahu Pātiki is 500ha of iconic whenua land including the summits of Te Ahu Pātiki Mt Herbert and Mt Bradley, the two highest points in the wider Ōtautahi Christchurch area. The land was purchased in 2021 to create a public park. This purchase was facilitated by the Rod Donald Banks Peninsula Trust and supported by donations of over $900,000 from more than 3000 individuals and organisations. A strong partnership has been formed between the Rod Donald Trust, Te Hapū Ngāti Wheke, Te Rūnanga o Koukourarata, and Orton Bradley Park.

The Trust values its role as kaitiaki of the park and the maunga and its partnership with the wider community. Its core purpose is to protect the land, restore native biodiversity, enable non-motorised public access, and support mana whenua values. The Trust acknowledges the local hapū who hold mana whenua and rangātira over Te Ahu Pātiki, so work in partnership with both Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke and Te Rūnanga o Koukourarata to make the shared vision for the maunga a reality.
